Supporting Les Enfants de la Lune
For its partnership with the Enfants de la Lune charity, Citroën Algérie took part in the “1 cork: 1 smile” cork collection campaign. The initiative was designed to encourage creative ways to protect the environment and help children affected by “dry skin” condition. The funds raised from selling collected corks to recycling plants were used to purchase medications and clothing.
Installation of village hydraulic systems
Village water hydraulics refers to simple, small-scale drinking water distribution networks that supply water to villages and small towns in rural areas, away from larger urban water distribution networks. Financed by the nonprofit Banourebo Fairtrade (Nzoliè Banourebo), a project designed to distribute drinking water to communities living close to the Banourebo farm was set up. For each of the two villages, the system is composed of a submerged pump, two standpipes, one 3,000-litre water tower for Kouadiotèkro and one 10,000-litre water tower for Banourebo.

*The SON tribe are members of the Guro people (300,000 individuals across 40 tribes).
Building the way for the future
The fairtrade fund of the GTM (Groupement Téblé de Maraban) has been used to build three classrooms, five homes for primary school teachers, two covered playgrounds and two young people’s hostels to improve the standards of living for the neighbouring communities around Maraban farm. It also aims to improve access to education for young people and housing conditions for primary school teachers.
GBH renews its support for food banks in Overseas France
On Wednesday 26 June 2024, the French Food Banks Federation (Fédération Française des Banques Alimentaires - FFBA) and GBH renewed their partnership agreement signed in 2022 to help to respond to the growing demand for emergency aid and replenish food stocks in Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion Island.
Through this partnership, GBH and its Carrefour subsidiaries have distributed nearly 4.3 million meals to recipient non-profits in these three territories since 2019.
This is the first time that the food banks network has received such support in these overseas territories at the same time.
GBH partners with the Guadeloupe Food Bank
The Guadeloupe Food Bank and its partner GBH have a shared goal of addressing the logistical challenges posed by the growing demand for food aid in Guadeloupe, in order to meet the needs of recipients.
GBH and its Carrefour subsidiaries in Guadeloupe are helping to fund new vehicles as part of a drive to upgrade the equipment of Guadeloupe's food bank, alongside other partners.
This initiative complements the existing efforts by Carrefour Destreland, Contact Grand-Camp and Saint-François, which are long-standing partners of the Guadeloupe Food Bank. Since 2016, thanks to the food bank donations at these stores, more than 400 tonnes of food have been collected, which is the equivalent of 875,000 meals in Guadeloupe.
For GBH, this action strengthens the partnership established in 2022 with the French Food Banks Federation (Fédération Française des Banques Alimentaires), enabling food items to be transported from Mainland France to Martinique, Guadeloupe and Réunion Island.
Since 2019, GBH and its Carrefour subsidiaries have distributed 3.7 million meals to these three territories.
GBH is developing its training solidarity programme for young people in Overseas France
Since 2022, GBH has been rolling out the "GBH Career Springboard" programme (known as the "Tremplin Pour l'Emploi GBH" locally), a professional-integration solidarity programme aimed at young people in Overseas France, in partnership with the Adapted Military Service Regiment (RSMA), the Ecole de la Deuxième Chance (Second Chance School) and various training bodies. To date, more than 100 young people have received training in mass-retail and motor-vehicle professions in Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana and Réunion Island.
This year, a new programme is being launched in Réunion Island in order to train participants as sales advisers. This course includes six months at the RSMA-Réunion, followed by a work-study course at Gem Formation and GBH stores, in particular Carrefour Réunion, Fnac and Promocash Réunion. This is the 4th GBH "Career Springboard" programme rolled out in Réunion Island.
In Guadeloupe, GBH, in partnership with the RSMA Guadeloupe and the Guadeloupe public education college (GRETA-CFA), has created a bespoke scheme for motor-vehicle professions. The trainees have just signed their apprenticeship contract and are joining the Group’s subsidiaries and the training centre.
GBH wants to provide support to get these young people into work and, once they have successfully completed their training programme, to offer them a job at one of its subsidiaries. Eight GBH Career Springboard programmes in total are being rolled out across the four territories.
The “GBH-RSMA-GRETA CFA Career Springboard” programme for mechanic professions in Guadeloupe
The RSMA, the GRETA-CFA training centre in Guadeloupe and GBH are establishing the “GBH-RSMA-GRETA CFA Career Springboard” programme (known as the "Tremplin Pour l’Emploi GBH-RSMA-GRETA-CFA" locally). This initiative demonstrates the shared determination of partners to take action to help to get young Guadeloupeans who are struggling to find a job into work. France Travail (the French government agency responsible for supporting job seekers and employers), Missions Locales and GBH subsidiaries are building this innovative scheme in order to train these young people in mechanics professions, against a backdrop of major technological developments and high youth unemployment. The partners are joining forces by signing a partnership charter. It aims to recruit and train 12 course participants without any prior motor-vehicle qualifications, so that they can obtain a vocational diploma qualifying them as a motor-vehicle electromechanical technician (a "BAC Pro" qualification, equivalent to a Level 4 diploma in the European Qualifications Framework). After 17 months of continuous learning within the Adapted Military Service Regiment (RSMA), followed by a work-study course at a public education college (GRETA-CFA) and GBH’s motor-vehicle subsidiaries, participants who successfully complete the programme will get a permanent job at one of these subsidiaries in Guadeloupe.

GBH, partner of the French Federation of Food Banks (FFBA)
The FFBA suffered a decline in stock of almost 100 tonnes due to the sudden rise in demand during the crisis and difficulties with supply. In addition, a shortage of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and protein intended for Overseas France has been a lamentable issue for several years.
Confronted with these growing needs, GBH wanted to contribute to solidarity initiatives with the Food Banks to increase the volume of foodstuffs for the West Indies and Réunion, to fight against both food insecurity and food waste.

Following a collection promoted by a wide advertising campaign (billboards and social media), six tonnes of food donations were collected. A strong show of solidarity. A big thankyou to everyone on Réunion Island who shops at Carrefour!
