Congratulations to graduates of the "GBH Career Springboard" programme in French Guiana
for solidarity
After a 15-month work-study course, 8 trainees have completed their training programme and secured a job at one of GBH's mass-retail subsidiaries in French Guiana. The “GBH-E2C Career Springboard" programme (known as the "Tremplin pour l'Emploi GBH - E2C” locally) was launched in March 2023, born out of a partnership between GBH and the Ecole de la Deuxième Chance (Second Chance School - E2C), with support from France Travail French Guiana (the French Guiana branch of the French government agency responsible for supporting job seekers and employers), the vocational training academic network and Carrefour Matoury and Contact. The programme set out to select, recruit and train French Guianese young people, so that they could obtain a vocational diploma qualifiying them as a sales adviser (a "Bac" qualification, equivalent to a Level 4 diploma in the European Qualifications Framework). After a 5-month period at E2C, the trainees did a work-study course at the vocational training academic network, Lycée Max Joséphine and Carrefour Matoury and Contact.
"We are delighted to have been able to bring these young French Guianans onto this programme. They have completed their work-study training programme brilliantly. In line with GBH’s commitments, they will be offered a job at GBH’s Carrefour Matoury and Contact subsidiaries in French Guiana. We are thrilled to welcome them into our teams. Congratulations to all. We would also like to thank the partners and mentors for their successful involvement in this programme. We want to continue this programme that improves access to jobs for young people who are struggling to find work", explained Pascal Chavignat, GBH HR Director.
Bespoke work-study training programme for young people struggling to find a job
The trainees did their 10-month work-study training programme at Carrefour Matoury and Contact, which are GBH subsidiaries, and the vocational training academic network, in partnership with Lycée Max Joséphine. The aim is to acquire the skills required for employee self-service (ESS) professions and professions involving funds. Young people were first overseen by the E2C for 5 months, the first phase of this training programme, with traineeships at Carrefour Matoury & Contact.
This effective work-study course system gives young people the opportunity to prepare for and adapt to the needs of businesses. Thanks to the progressive educational course, a career path can emerge. Throughout their course, they are paired with mentors from Carrefour Matoury and Contact.
The work-study programme helps young people to acquire professional skills, in particular to develop their product knowledge, help to manage the retail area and oversee the products and services offered by the store.
"We and our teams, the mentors of these apprentices, are really proud to have been able to provide this on-the-job support to these young people, helping them to acquire new skills and put what they learned in their classes into practice, and passing on our mass-retail knowledge. The result of these joint efforts over 10 months is further evidence that work-study programmes are a gamechanger for young French Guianans and our companies", explained Rodolphe Assier de Pompignan, Director of Carrefour Matoury, a GBH subsidiary.
A Bac-level diploma training course and a contract at the end for young French Guianans
The first stage for this scheme was to recruit participants for the course, aged 18 to 29 years old and without any qualifications. The E2C Guyane (French Guiana Second Chance School) and GBH drew on the expertise of the Pôle Emploi Guyane (the French Guiana job centre), offering selection and recruitment methods tailored to the relevant audience. At the end of their training programme, the E2C continues its role as a mentor for the young people.
A bespoke training programme that fulfils labour-market needs
Being admitted to the GBH-E2C Career Springboard programme is an opportunity for a young person, providing them with access to many resources in order to improve their professional skills. The shared commitment of the partners contribute to the success of these professional-integration efforts, which aim to be sustained long term.
The Career Springboard programme, which has been established in Réunion Island, Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana by GBH and which boasts more than 80 trained young people, brings together all of the work undertaken by the Group to help to get groups struggling to find a job into work, in partnership with a major relevant player.
